Indian marketplaces

Indian marketplaces are located each and everywhere in India. Right between parked cars, smelling motorcycles, toothbrushing people... :o)
Till now you are hardly able to find any supermarket, maybe this will change soon: India afraid of supermarkets?!

In Indien gibt es einfach überall Markt: Zwischen parkenden Autos, stinkenden Motorrädern, zähneputzenden Menschen... :o)
Vielleicht wird sich das in nächster Zeit auch ein bisschen einschränken, bisher findet man jedoch kaum einen Supermarkt weit und breit: Indiens Angst vor den Supermärkten

... and you're able to buy simply everything: Starting with food and ending with goats.

... und man kann auch nahezu alles kaufen: "Wolle Ziege kaufen??" ;o)

Eine Schule, eine Schulleiterin und Schicksale die echt ans Herz gehen...
Deepak - ein einst tauber Junge ohne jegliche Chance auf Schulbildung - probt nun wie wild mit seinem Hörgerät für den Musikunterricht :o) ... und musiziert sich in unsere Herzen.

The story of "Deepak": This young boy was hearing impaired and nobody was able to imagine that he is going to be able to play music at some time. But with the help of a lot of dedicated people (first of all Rajan - founder of the school!) they were able to buy a hearing aid and made it happen. Deepak and also Rajan really moved our hearts!

People at the Ganges - Varanasi

Staying at the Ganges in Varanasi was one of the most fascinating and impressive things we did during the whole trip. Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in India and the holiest city for the hindus. I really appreciate that it was just as smelly as in the other parts of India since I expected it to be much worse. Never the less there are cremation ceremonies, bathing people, people celebrating holy rituals and even people doing laundry in the river next to each other.

Die Zeit direkt am Ganges in Varanasi war wohl wirklich die beeindruckenste und faszinierenste der ganzen Reise. Erfreulicher Weise hat es dort auch wirklich nicht mehr gerochen als in anderern Teilen des Landes (wovon ich eigentlich ausgegangen war). Ganz im Gegenteil, es grenzte - je nach Tageszeit - schon fast an Romantik, in jedem Fall eine zutiefst religiöse Stimmung! Fährt man am Ufer entlang sieht man Leichenverbrennungsstätten, Menschen die sich zu rituellen Waschungen im Wasser tummeln und Wäsche waschende Menschen dicht nebeneinander.

In the evening we were really happy to be part of the biggest Puja (religious ceremony) during the whole year. People decorated the waterside with hundreds of candles.

An diesem Abend hatten wir das große Glück die größte Puja (religiöse Zeremonie) im ganzen Jahr sehen zu dürfen - natürlich wieder vom Wasser aus. Das komplette Ufer wurde mit Kerzen geschmückt und ein Meer von schwimmenden Kerzen zierte den Fluss.
